GDC 11: Collaborative Pixel Art Puts Convention-goers to Work

GDC isn’t generally big on installation art, but there was one pixel-pusher represented. Artist Jude Buffum and his collaborators in the art collective/marketing firm iam8bit showed up at the conference this year with an intriuging, crowd-sourced project. Each pixel on the 8′x20′ picture found above was distributed to a single convention-goer — the art’s full effect will depend on everyone stopping by and affixing their pixel in the correct spot.

Can you make out anything it’s current state? We’ll be attaching a video taken from up close, which will enable you to formulate your guesses. I think I see some fire/laser-breath, and maybe some golden boots. Stay tuned for updates on this clever piece of art as the week progresses. For now, you can download a video of the piece here.
