GDC 2012: Cliffy B Says New Devs Should Create Games For PC

Epic design director Cliff “Cliffy B” Bleszinski appeared at GDC today, and he had some interesting, and awesome, advice for new developers looking to break into the industry: ignore consoles and mobiles, focus on PC. The comments came during a very brief, 5 minute long “microtalk” to developers in attendance in which he offered several suggestions for success. He reportedly emphasized the PC platform heavily, roundly criticizing the way Sony and Microsoft treat developers, and outright dissed mobile gaming.

His main beef with the consoles is that in his opinion – and this is supported by the available evidence as far as Game Front is concerned – Sony and Microsoft simply will not give indie developers the promotion their games deserve. He also offered up the usual platitudes about perseverance and not giving up even though your initial games will be terrible. BUt the most important thing: He rightly gets that PC, as a platform, provides more freedom, not just for developers, but for players too. Heed his advice, guys; the man learned everything he knows from scary Broadway pimps!

This, being the same dude that has insulted PC gamers and gaming over and over for 5+ years. Now he wants back on the bandwagon? Piss off Cliffy, go back to making Gears of War sequels.
