Gearbox Confirms Aliens: Colonial Marines For E3 and 2012 Release
We’ve been waiting patiently for word on the status of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Ever since the news of Duke Nukem: Forever going gold, this is the game we’ve expected Gearbox to be talking about. Over the past few days, there have been a few hints, including burned doll’s heads and replica pulse rifles. Today, we’ve finally gotten official word that the game is still coming, and that we’ll see it at E3.
Here’s the official word on the story the game is based around:
Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.
It sounds like it’s going to at least try to stay true to the movies, and that’s important, especially for a game that Gearbox President Randy Pitchford calls, “one of the most influential science fiction properties of all time.” No game has ever put me on edge quite like the first Aliens vs. Predator did, and I hope that this title will bring back the atmosphere that made AvP so great.
Colonial Marines will be launching in the spring of 2012 on PC, PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. We’ll bring you all the info that Gearbox reveals straight from the E3 show floor next week. Until then, you can check out the press release right here.
