Gearbox Denies Aliens: Colonial Marines Delay
Yesterday, the gang over at the NeoGAF forums were discussing an interview with Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, in which he reportedly said that Aliens: Colonial Marines would be pushed back into 2012.
Today, Pitchford has denied these reports, telling Eurogamer,
I haven’t seen the issue of Edge that the NeoGAF story is referencing or what was printed, but I am certain that I haven’t discussed anything specific regarding Aliens: Colonial Marines with anyone beyond emphasizing how passionate I am about the title and how committed my studio and I are to making it great.
“It looks to me like whomever made that post on NeoGAF made an interpretation that could be misleading or inaccurate.
Jim Sterling, GameFront columnist, suggested in a piece on Destructoid that the delay was due to Gearbox concentrating on a sequel to Borderlands. This speculation prompted Pitchford to reply,
I respect Jim and his audience and I’m a little surprised he didn’t bother to try to e-mail myself or our folks before extrapolating that NeoGAF post even further. Jim even referenced Borderlands 2? What’s Borderlands 2? Bah! And El Oh El!
It’s not like a delay would be a surprise, as Colonial Marines has already missed its original 2009 release, and was further delayed to avoid conflicting with Rebellion’s Aliens vs. Predator last year. It looks like we’ll have to wait and see what happens down the road to decipher this one.
Still, you have to give Pitchford the benefit of the doubt. After all, if the guy can get Duke Nukem: Forever released, is there anything he can’t do?
