Gearbox Details Next Borderland DLC
So, Borderlands. Gearbox’s quirky shooter/RPG gained a big following upon its release, consuming many of us here at FileFront. Not only did we play the original game to death, but we grabbed up all the DLC and played that too. Given all that, you’ll understand our excitement with the upcoming DLC, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution.
Unlike the General Knoxx add-on, this DLC won’t raise the level cap. However, Gearbox is issuing a free patch prior to the release of this DLC that will raise the level cap for everyone by eight levels. If you only have the original game, you’ll be able to level to 58. If you own General Knoxx, you’ll be able to get all the way to level 69.
The Revolution DLC puts Claptrap in the forefront, opening with a diorama-style tale of Claptraps revolting, taking over, and beginning to modify the populace. You’ll be able to adventure across six new zones. These zones are targeted at foot travel, so the emphasis on vehicles is much less than it was in General Knoxx.
You’ll venture out from Tartarus Station, picking up quests that will take you throughout the new areas. You’ll encounter lots of new enemies, as well as a number of old enemies that have been given the ‘claptrap treatment.’ Think cyborg skags, and you’re on the right track about what to expect. You can also expect to see familiar faces like General Knoxx and Dr. Ned, who have been re-animated through the magic of Claptrap technology.
Much like the other DLC offerings, Revolution’s content will scale with your level, meaning that you can visit it whenever you like, and as many times as you like. Going through twice will net you two skill points and six SDUs to increase your storage space.
It should come as no surprise that Gearbox is continuing the goofy/silly theme of the game. You’ll see Claptraps armed with boxing gloves, and you’ll even see campaign posters starring Claptraps in place of folks like Obama and Che Guevara.
Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution will be released into the wild on September 28th on PC, PlayStation 3 and XBox 360, and will run you $10. Until then, you’ll just have to keep grinding Crawmerax for new goodies. You can also check out our Borderlands page for all the latest news, and all of our Borderlands files.
