Gearbox: No Borderlands 2 Official Tools, But Modding Encouraged

Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has confirmed that official modding tools won’t be made available for Borderlands 2. However, before we get a sad about that, the good news is that Gearbox is totally behind modders messing with its game.

The comments came during Pitchford’s appearance this week at the UK-based PC gaming conference Rezzed. Discussing the decision not to release modding tools for Borderlands, Pitchford said “There was a moment after Borderlands shipped where we thought about releasing an official SDK.” However, he said that Gearbox discovered that “most of what we would be able to do” had already been handled by the modding community.

This impacted the decision to move on to other things. “The best thing we could do for the community was get to work on Borderlands 2″. Which means you all need to get busy preparing to create some great mods.

In the meantime, make a note: Importing a Borderlands save into Borderlands 2 will unlock bonus content. Check out the official site for more.
