Gearbox Isn’t Selling a Level Cap with Borderlands 2 Character DLC

There’s a new DLC coming to Borderlands 2, and there’s a level cap coming to Borderlands 2. According to Gearbox, they’re two separate things.

Players have been worried that the cap would come with paid content with the upcoming but not-yet-fully-revealed character DLC, since that DLC is not part of the Borderlands 2 Season Pass DLC offering. According to Twitter updates, though, Gearbox says there’s no reason to worry.

So while we don’t have all the details, I’d expect Gearbox to push a level cap increase as a free update for Borderlands 2. It’s possible it might be delivered in a different way, but it doesn’t seem like something the developer would charge for.

As for the new character DLC, that is something Gearbox means to charge for. According to the description of the Season Pass, it includes four pieces of “Campaign” DLC for the price of three — and Gearbox is referencing that description when fielding questions about the new pack. That means there’s a fourth “Campaign DLC” coming that hasn’t been announced yet, and if you bought the Season Pass, you’ll be getting that. It also means you’ll be paying for this new character if you want it.

Check out the trailer for the new character below.

I would have been very surprised and disappointed if they actually charged for the level increase. I suppose they technically did that with the first game, but those increases were rolled into larger DLC, so it wasn’t an issue. I know they have mentioned that a cap increase would be more substantial than simply raising the limit, but it still seems like a good idea to make that a free update since it never hurts to make the customers feel like their business is appreciated.

Update they are charging for the level cap increase. It’s going to be $4.99. A few new rare weapons and E-Tech come with it but that’s it. But Gearbox has started to become more greedy then before so I expected it.
