Gearbox Unveils the Homeworld Remastered Collection
Homeworld HD is now Homeworld Remastered, a title the developers say better reflects their comprehensive effort to remake the classic RTS series.
Via the Gearbox blog, the devs took the wraps off of the renamed Homeworld Remastered Collection.
“Previously, we’d been referring to this effort as Homeworld HD but as work progressed it became clear that title didn’t properly communicate the scope of the work,” Gearbox stated. “This is more than a simple re-release or up-res — given the input we’ve received from fans, mod makers and series veterans, the result is full-fledged remastering of nearly all aspects alongside the archival Classic versions.”
Along with the new name, Gearbox revealed the official Homeworld Remastered website, and though there is still no official release date, the site notes pre-orders will be available “soon.”
Homeworld Remastered features:
- High-res textures and models
- New graphical effects
- Support for HD, UHD, and 4K resolutions
- Cinematic scenes recreated by the original Homeworld audio and video artists in high fidelity
- A centralized multiplayer mode with enhanced player interaction
Gearbox ponied up more than a group of crowdfunding fans for the rights to the Homeworld franchise last year, but based on the above details, it sounds like Gearbox is giving Homeworld Remastered just as much love as any diehard.
Also of note: the new Homeworld Remastered site includes a survey, asking fans to choose between one of two versions of a Collector’s Edition. Both versions of the CE will include a statue of a Homeworld Mothership, and I’ve definitely been playing too much South Park: The Stick of Truth, because this statue… I just… see for yourself:
Yeah, pretty sure I found that baby in Cartman’s mom’s bedroom.
Gearbox says more Homeworld news is coming soon. We’ll keep you posted.
