Gears of War 3 3D Graphics Look Terrible
Towards the tail end of our Gears of War 3 hands-on experience, we were given a chance to sit down with some fancy-looking 3D technology and try out the game‘s 3D graphics mode. In a word, it was awful. The 3D treatment seemed to cause an anti-aliasing nightmare, surrounding character models and objects with ugly, jagged outlines. Also distressing was the effect it had on color, bleeding the life out of even the most vibrant golds and reds.
For a cover shooter like Gears of War, you’d think a technological improvement that makes it easier to see what’s in front of what would be a big step forward. Unfortunately, you’d be wrong — instead of enhancing the game, 3D’s biggest impact is to blunt the effect created by the game’s impeccable art, level and character design, and animation. For more information about Gears of War 3′s other, better features, check out GameFront’s coverage of the game’s Easter Eggs, the return of Dr. Adam Fenix, the difficulty level adjustments, the new co-op features, and the intriguing campaign “mutators.” We also have a video interview with Executive Producer Rod Fergusson available for your viewing pleasure.
