Gears Of War Movie 1 Step Closer To Never Happening

After a troubled development going back nearly 6 years, the Gears of War film has taken another step closer to joining Uncharted, Castlevania, and BioShock on the list of video game movies that will never ever happen. A little more than a year after Cliffy B confirmed the film was in ‘development hell‘, Variety is reporting that the film has been put in turnaround by New Line.

What this means for those of you who don’t speak movie jargon is that New Line is now allowing Epic Games to shop the rights to make the film around to other studios. Which is to say, as of this week, no one is making the movie. This could change, but we know it won’t. Even if someone else buys the rights to make the movie, it’s never going to be made. And that’s fine with me. Yes, the series had made more than a billion dollars for Epic, but the moment has passed. The trilogy is over, and they’re now resorting to prequelized strip-mining to keep making new series content. Guaranteed that the next Gears of War makes not even half the impact of its predecessors, especially now that Cliffy B has left Epic.

If Bioshock Infinite is a hit like the first game was, then you can pretty much guarantee the movie will be back on.
