German Ratings Board Reveals Alan Wake’s American Nightmare

So it’s not Alan Wake: Night Springs, like we thought, but Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.

The Xbox Live Arcade downloadable title following up last year’s stellar thriller Alan Wake is set to be unveiled at the VGAs this weekend, but it’s not Alan Wake 2, developer Remedy has said.

Unfortunately, that’s about all we know. We’ve seen Alan Wake in some flannel in a really short teaser, and a screen from the upcoming game suggests he’ll be going to Night Springs, a fictional town that was the focus of a “Twilight Zone”-like TV show that featured fairly heavily in the last game. In the lore of Alan Wake, Alan Wake (the dude) formerly wrote for the “Night Springs” TV show earlier in his career.

The fact that the title of the game is now revealed to be Alan Wake’s American Nightmare suggests to me that more supernatural reality-bending is at work here. Wake (the dude) spent quite a while in a sort of dream world during the two DLC releases that followed Alan Wake. American Nightmare could very well carry a literal meaning.

Guess we’ll know more on Saturday.
