Get a Free OnLive Code with a PC Disc Purchase of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Here’s a cool reason to skip buying Deus Ex: Human Revolution through Steam or another download service and head to the nearest Best Buy instead: Purchase a physical PC copy of DXHR and you not only get the game on disc, you also get a Steam code and a free code to play the game through cloud streaming service OnLive.
The cool thing about that is, while you wait for the game to load, you can start playing the game via OnLive’s servers over your Internet connection. It won’t cost you anything — OnLive’s base service is free — and eventually you’ll be able to download an iPad or Android tablet app that lets you play games on that over the Internet as well. So there you go: eventually, DXHR on your mobile tablet. That’s pretty cool.
There’s a downside, though. We reached out to Eidos’ PR team, which got in touch with OnLive for us and confirmed that as of right now, there’s no saving of shared games between the two services. That means that if you play DXHR on OnLive, you won’t be able to continue your game on your PC physical copy (or through Steam using that code).
However, according to the response we received, OnLive is aware of how cool this feature would be if it were implemented, so the door’s still open that something like save sharing could happen in the future. I’m not holding my breath, but it would certainly make things more awesome by a degree of amplitude.
Either way, the code essentially amounts to another free copy of the game to do with what you will, which is nice.
