Gladius and Scutum – Total War: Rome II Launches

TIL that the Roman Empire, when marching its legions against its many foes of the ancient world, did not permit battle cries from its soldiers, demanding near total silence until the moment the enemy was engaged at close quarters. Not only is that a staggering display of discipline, it must have been downright terrifying to anyone that faced the silent mass of highly trained and well-armed killers. I look forward to finding out if my own army will maintain that same eerie-quiet discipline today with the release of Total War: Rome II.

It seems like ages ago that The Creative Assembly first teased Rome 2, and as a fan of the franchise, I’m looking forward to finally returning to the Empire. Here’s hoping there are suitable AI improvements to go along with all the shiny new visuals. Even when winning a lopsided battle in Shogun 2, it seemed like my samurai would become terrified and retreat at the slightest scratch.

Check out the launch trailer below, let us know your thoughts in the comments section if you’ve already started your silent assault on the ancient world, and stay tuned for Game Front’s official review.
