Go PC Gaming! Steam Tops 7.1 Million Concurrent Users
You might think that, with the arrival of two new consoles, Steam might have taken a bit of a hit this past weekend. Not so much.
The good folks at NeoGaf checked in on the Steam stats over the long, turkey-stuffed weekend and found that more than 7.1 million PC gamers (peaking at over 7,190,377) were concurrently using Valve’s gaming portal. Guess the Steam Autumn Sale (which still has four hours left of price slashing as of this posting) had a few good deals.
The 7.1 million figure is impressive all by its lonesome, but then there’s this: during the same holiday weekend last year, Steam reported a record 6 million concurrent users. So Steam not only didn’t take a hit with new consoles from Sony and Microsoft out in the wild, it’s more popular than ever. Oh, and the most played games were Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and Team Fortress 2. I’d say Gabe Newell and crew are feeling pretty good about themselves right now.
That’s great news for PC gaming as a whole and especially good for Valve as it gears up to take over the living room in 2014.
