On Chapter 6: The Cistern there is a side room with a large painting depicting Olympus. Pressing [R1] to interact with the painting will cause a strange message appear.
Of all the prophecies I have seen, this one haunts my dreams.
The full truth of this nightmare yet remains hidden. – Aletheia
What does this jumble of letters mean? Clever users on the NeoGAF forums discovered the solution by comparing the different language versions of the text to find the cipher.
English Translation: QUJIKPHIUEEEKMJQUJ = SUN BIRD BULL LION SUN
Code Input & Final Image [UPDATED: 3/13/2013]
Around the area where the painting and coded message are located, there are four ground plates matching the words of the translation. If Kratos stands on each of the plates and presses [R1] in order, the original painting will change.
Interacting with the painting will reveal an image of the Earth and a new message; “When the Earth stops, the journey begins.”
Translation Theories – What Does It Mean?
God of War goes to Egypt?
Anyone with a passing familiarity to Egyptian mythology might see “Sun Bird” as a reference to Ra, the Egyptian Sun God with the head of a falcon.
There were many Bull cults in ancient Egypt, as well. Bulls were often considered a sacred animal, along with cats, and an embodiment of Osiris.
Speaking of cats, the Lion is another revered Egyptian animal, depicted in the mythological Sphynx and the god Aker who guarded the gates to the underworld.
God of War goes to Persia? (or Greece, or the Indo-Iranian region…)
More links exist to the Zoroastrian deity Mithras, a well-known figure who’s legend spread into the Greek-world. In one of his roles, Mithras was the God of War.
Mithras was a legendary hero born from the dirt, who served a Sun God and brought life to all humanity after spilling the blood of a great Bull.
