GOG.com Rolls Out Its Guide to ‘Enhancing’ Baldur’s Gate

The Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition was delayed a month from its release this week, but you don’t have to wait for the commercial re-release from Beamdog to try out the classic RPG in its shinier glory.

GOG.com is offering its own enhanced version of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II. Actually, rather than a new version of the game, it’s a group of mods and fixes that can be installed easily with the games to make them work better. GOG is pushing them along with the site’s Dungeons & Dragons sale, in which the more D&D games you buy from the GOG catalog, the deeper a discount you get on each one.

The process for GOG’s mod-enhanced version of Baldur’s Gate is a little more involved than just buying a new version. Check out the 15-step guide here, and make sure you read it over carefully before you start messing with things, as it’ll have you installing mods, moving files, and eventually deleting the installer for Baldur’s Gate: The Original Saga once you have everything in order.
