GoG.com Update: Changed Service Returns Post Beta

Closure of the website “was a technical need”, but it’s all just a publicity stunt.

The directors of GOG.com came on and announced that the shutdown was a strangely executed viral marketing approach.

GoG.com is coming back with an enhanced website that is no longer stamped in “beta”. 98% of the website code is redone to allow larger traffic and larger concurrent users.

The new features include:

  • New navigation
  • Simplified account creation/login process
  • Purchase recommendations for users

In the end though.. well there just was no real news here.

This was a press conference to highlight “the excellence of their own web design”, which honestly has not changed much at all. Most of the enhancements were infrastructure oriented and not sexy or relevent to most gamers/buyers.

Was it really necessary to inconvenience paying customers for 3 days? Really?
