GOG Offering Refunds on Dark Matter

In the wake of this weekend’s “scandal” regarding the unfinished nature of the indie title Dark Matter, which concludes its story at a fairly innocuous point at which a splash screen promises more later on, online retailer GOG.com is offering refunds to those who bought the game from the site prior to 15:00 GMT today (7am PDT). The significance of that time is that’s when the game’s description was updated to say it contains “The first half of a thrilling, gripping story.

Or they’ll do you one better in case you don’t want to wait for that cash to return to your credit card balance; in lieu of a refund, they’ll give you any game or games that costs less than the current Dark Matter price of $13.49, which would be most of what they offer. Refunds or replacement games should be requested through GOG support.

As usual, there is more to this story than meets the eye, and our Catherine Cai has provided some context for this situation.

Gratz GOG on doing the right thing for gamers. If you look up stories about it that company that made this game kept changing it’s wording about what happened. Also for them to not come up with a better way to end the game was just insulting to customers. A text message on a screen ? C’MON MAN !

A text message as an ending… ahh takes me right back to 1989… I wanted more in my endings then, too.
