Goldeneye 007′s Modes and Mods

The divide between PC and Console gamers can probably be best described by how many console gamers don’t even realize there’s such a thing as modding1. This has, fortunately, started to change as increased customization is becoming an expected part of console games. Playstation’s Little Big Planet and ModNation Racer have been hits in part because of very robust editing tools, and Xbox exclusive Halo: Reach includes a truly massive level editor, the Forge.

Now, even Nintendo is getting in on the party with the upcoming Goldeneye 007, their (oddly controversial2) enhanced remake of the 1997 N64 classic. In addition to an updated story (penned by the screenwriter of the original film), a new cast including the current Bond, Daniel Craig, and (somewhat) better graphics, the game also includes a surprisingly large number of customization options. This aspect of the game is featured in a new trailer, simply titled Modes and Mods:

Goldeneye 007 just went from something I was kind of interested in, to a must-play game. It drops November 2, but if you simply can’t wait until then, we have a suggestion: check out this excellent Half-Life 2 mod, Goldeneye: Source.

1) No, seriously, you wouldn’t believe the number of times I’ve had to explain to people what, precisely, it is that I report on. And I’m talking about people who own all three consoles.
2) There’s a lot of weird outrage about this game. I don’t get it at all; you’d think Nintendo was releasing an updated version of Metroid that removed the need for exploration. Oh, wait.
