Google Setting Up Social Network with Games Platform

The Wall Street Journal reports that Google is working on deals with Zynga, Playdom and Playfish for a new social network that is intended to compete directly with Facebook. The rumor is that the network will be called Google Me, and social gaming would be only a part of the thing. This all comes via “sources,” and Google won’t confirm nothin’.

So, yeah, it would be cool for Google if they were to launch a new social platform and put Zynga’s Farmville and Mafia Wars on it, but it might be too late, since everybody is already using Facebook for those things. And it’s not like Buzz has really taken off as a Twitter competitor, so unless Google can exclusively deliver something that folks really really want, I can’t imagine they’ll stand much of a chance.

Now’s when you have some fun with this, Google. If you want users, call your new network “eSex,” and everyone will jump aboard. “eSex.”

I think they should leave Facebook affairs for… well… Facebook. Google can do a lot of things, but networking people together is not it’s strong point.
