Gran Turismo 5 Install Times Raising Some Eyebrows

There was a bit of a ruckus across the internet this morning after a post over on GTPlanet. It seems that the full install for the retail version of Gran Turismo 5 takes around 50 minutes, and consumes about 6.4GB of hard drive space.

Lost in all the hoopla was a tweet from Kazunori Yamauchi (that’s a translation) that said GT5 has a 256 MB install option.

Furthermore, Sony has released a statement saying,

GT5 gives users the option of an install. This makes loading times throughout much faster but is not a requirement when first playing.

If users choose not to install the data straight away it will do it in stages as news areas, tracks etc are accessed during normal game play.

So, the sky is not falling. Also, if you really can’t take 50 minutes to install a game, you might want to re-examine your priorities.
