Grand Theft Auto Franchise Has Shipped 125 Million Units

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has shipped 125 million units life-to-date, speaking at the Credit Suisse 2012 Technology Conference.

In September 2011, this figured was 114 million, and a Take-Two representative noted to GameSpot that 2008′s Grand Theft Auto IV alone shipped 25 million units.

Zelnick also explained why he believes the Grand Theft Auto series is so popular, comparing the franchise to James Bond’s. He said much in the same way that a new Bond film is not typically released every two years, the same can be said for Grand Theft Auto games. This release schedule keeps the series “special,” he said.
