Grand Theft Auto V Announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One

Grand Theft Auto V is heading to PC, PS4 4 and Xbox One this fall.

The new versions were confirmed this evening in a trailer unveiled at Sony’s E3 2014 press conference. Rockstar would confirm shortly afterward that the new editions will “take full advantage of the power” of the new platforms to deliver “across-the-board graphical and technical improvements” including “increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions.”

The new editions will likewise take full advantage of improvements and additions made to Grand Theft Auto V’s multiplayer component GTA Online. Players who own the current PS3 and Xbox 360 iterations will also be able to transfer their save files to the newer editions should they opt to upgrade. Lastly, Rockstar has revealed that the PC game will come package with a video editor designed for “advanced movie-making.”

I understand the PC release, but why bother releasing it on next-gen? I guess they just worked out it would sell enough to justify it, but it’s a bit silly. Most people with Xbox One and PS4 probably had their predecessor and played the game on that. It was already pushing the envelope and I don’t see how much else they can incorporate on Eighth-gen that they haven’t already on Seventh. If it’s just online they’re worried about, then release the online mode separately at a cut price for Xbone and PS4.
