Grand Theft Auto V PC (Possibly) Outed, But Stay Calm
Has the PC version of GTA V been confirmed? If listings posted earlier this week to German online shopping outlets aren’t in error, the answer, at long last, is yes.
On Monday, eagle-eyed NeoGaf users noticed that both the German version of Amazon and rival service GamesOnly.at had posted listings for the elusive PC build. (The image at the top of this page is from GamesOnly.at). If this turns out to be true, much rejoicing will be heard.
But before you start celebrating, there are lots of reasons to remain skeptical. For one thing, these listings contain no specs or other useful information PC gamers would normally expect to see. (In fact, the Amazon.de listing says the game will launch on Windows 7 and Vista, but not Windows 8. The fact that developers hate Win 8 aside, that seems somewhat unlikely.) For another, it’s worth pointing out that retailers often jump the gun with things like this; these might simply be placeholder listings for when the PC versions are finally, actually announced, and some lowly employee deployed the page ahead of schedule.
It’s true that Rockstar is generally quick to shut down rumors and inaccurate information, and so far not a peep has come from GTA V HQ about this news. But they’re also having what seems like quite a lot of fun stoking the flames of rampant desperation with cryptic, coy marketing followed by highly managed events such as last week’s character trailers/press demo one-two punch. (Hell, I still remain half-convinced that some of the crazier rumors about GTA V have been deliberate misinformation.) We’re obviously excited about GTA V on PC, but until Rockstar actually says that these listings are the real deal, best take this with a grain of salt and prepare to play on console. For now, that silly Change.org petition doesn’t need to be disabled.
As always, we’ll let you know as soon as there is official confirmation of a PC version of the game. Most likely, it’ll come in the form of a obscure Eplison gag.
