Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters Announced

Movie tie-in games are risky, but maybe the industry is finally learning (Ignoring Iron Man or its sequel) that super hero games don’t have to follow the movie plot, and are often better when they don’t. To that end, I’m excited by the idea of a game featuring my favorite DC hero – Green Lantern.

Sure, it’s marketing to help sell the character in multiple media but we can dream that it won’t be a bad game right? Warner Bros., double Helix and  Griptonite Games are in work on Green lantern: Rise of the Manhunters for a Summer 2011 release on the Xbox 360, Wii, PS3 and DS.

Those unfamiliar with the Manhunters should know that before the little blue men created the Green Lantern Corps, they used an army of unfeeling robots called Manhunters to patrol the galaxy. The Manhunters turned bad, though. Throughout the history of the modern Green Lantern comics, they are often enemies of the multi-cultural police force. Unfortunately, the ComicCon reveal was sparse on visuals as it’s assumed the game is in really early development.
