GTA IV: 16-Player Multiplayer and 15 Game Modes

We know there would be some sort of multiplayer, but just what kind of multiplayer Grand Theft Auto IV would contain remained a mystery up until just recently. The Spain edition of PSM3 magazine has pulled the cover off the game’s 15 multiplayer modes and 16-player limit of this year’s biggest release.

Through Niko’s mobile phone, you’ll be able to access the multiplayer mode and customize your character. In addition to the usual stuff like Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, there will be Hangman’s Noose which is based upon a mission from the game where you need to escort an NPC across the city while being swarmed by SWAT. There’s also Mafia/Team Mafia, where players will race to be the first one to complete a simple task. Cops N Crooks sounds to me like it’ll be the most fun structured mode, as playing a loose version of it in multiplayer mods on PC was one of the most entertaining things I’ve ever done in a GTA game.

Free Roam has me most excited, because even though it will presumably allow you to just drive around aimlessly with friends, I love the concept of wreaking havoc across the city with a friend and no restrictions. It’ll be interesting to see what they prevent you from doing while playing Free Roam compared with the single-player – imagine doing a solo mission where you have to make a deal with a group of NPCs that goes wrong, but you have the backup of friends that have taken up sniper positions in the surrounding area. I doubt that it’ll happen, but it’s fun to let you mind wander with the possibilities.

Hit the break for the full list of game modes.

  • Hangman’s Noose
  • Car Jack City
  • Bomb da Base
  • Bomb da Base II
  • Mafia Work
  • Team Mafia Work
  • Deathmatch
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Turf War
  • Cops N Crooks
  • Race
  • GTA Race
  • Deal Breaker
  • Free Roam

Just to point out, none of this can actually be classed as “Official” confirmation of anything.

One magazine has run with the story and everyones jumped on this story like its gold dust, but rockstar have neither confirmed or denied any of this.
And is always the case with rumours, especially GTA ones, I wont believe it until they say so.
