GTA V Release Window Leaked, Probably
We still don’t know the precise date GTA V will be released, but thanks to the timely leak of some posters to a Polish GTA forum, we know the time frame, and as much as it pains me to admit it, it’s precisely when professional analysts predicted. We can apparently expect GTA V in spring, 2013.
I confess to finding this kind of strange, even now. You’ll recall Take-Two’s May investor call, when the company laid out its financial predictions for the current fiscal year? Their estimate included a mysterious, unaccounted-for $450 million dollars in revenues that everyone with a functional brain concluded could only be filled by the release of GTA V. Most analysts predicted, accurately as it turns out, that the game would be released in early 2013, which would put it in the 4th quarter of the current fiscal year, handily raking in tons of money just before the start of the next one.
And yet, shortly after these predictions were released, Take Two proceeded to clear a huge hole in their fall release schedule by moving their biggest year end releases to early 2013. The obvious conclusion was that they were making room for a Fall GTA V release. Of course, that didn’t happen. Making matters murkier, however, is the fact that the poster says ‘Spring 2013.’ The first day of Spring in 2013 is March 20. The current fiscal year ends on March 31, 2013. Unless they’re planning a March 26, 2013 release, it looks like GTA V will be due out next fiscal year. And that would actually jibe with something else we’ve talked about behind the scenes at Game Front: Rockstar loves May, and October releases. Indeed, that consistency is why I originally assumed GTA V would drop in October. Now? I’m guessing May or late April.
One other thing worth noting: These posters only have PS3 and Xbox 360 logos. No PC, no Wii U. Make of that what you will.
