The PAX indie darling Guacamelee! has finally come out on the PSN and PSVita, and it is jam-packed with internet references. We’re talking memes, game references, and fine art. The list goes on, it’s too much for anyone to catalogue — but Game Front’s Mitch is giving it the old college try in his Guacamelee! easter eggs video above.

For those curious, Guacamelee! is a Metroid-style 2D action-platformer. Making progress requires exploring, and exploration is vividly rewarded thanks to all the new sights — it feels like every inch is coated with reverent gaming call-backs or advice-meme inclusions. If you’re an internet denizen (like us) you’ll want to see how much has been jammed into Guacamelee!

I think I spotted a Mortal Kombat reference. While I was beating some enemies, the goat guy’s face appeared on the screen pretty much like the Toasty guy from MK. I don’t know what I did for it to happen, tough…

Yeah its when you get a large combo count.

Also if you visit the world of the dead version of Santa luchita there is more references:
1. Bane vs. Batman poster
2. The IKEA monkey changes to Grim Fandango.
3. There is a Meat Boy vs. El ninja (n+ I’m guessing) that changes to a pedobear maraca academy poster.
4. Mine forever changes to the nether portal

There are heaps of others but those are just the ones in Santa luchita.
If you see something funny, check the same spot in the land of the dead and it will probably be something else.

Did anyone see the markers and scarf or tunic from Journey? They are at the base of Sierra. Very nicely done game!
