Guild Wars 2 Kills Queues With Overflow Servers

Guild Wars 2 has an elegant solution to server queues: more servers.

According to a post on the Guild Wars 2 Guru forums, ArenaNet’s server overflow feature will make it so players never have to wait to get into their game with their primary characters, although they may have to wait a bit in order to get online with their friends.

The overload feature works by funneling players waiting into a server queue to an overflow server. There, you can start playing with whatever character you’re queued up with, and any progress you make gets saved back to your home server. You’re still in the queue, however, even while you’re playing on the overflow server, and once you get to the front, you’re prompted with the option to jump back to your home server. That way, you can play a little on your own and with the character you want, then get pushed back to the server your friends are on when space is made.

Sure sounds like a good idea.
