Guild Wars State of the Game: Defensive Anthem, Mesmers, and the Metagame
Arena.Net has introduced “play balance test week” to test the impact on new changes to the metagame of Guild Wars such as GvG, Hero Battles and the Arena. Here from the Guild Wars State of the Game are one observer’s views of the results.
After finding the Paragon’s Defensive Anthem to be over powered, the casting time was increased from one to two seconds. Mesmers also got a boost enabling their interruptive “power” skills to effect Paragon chants, as well as a nice bonus to fast casting. Illusion skills have also recieved noticable buffs and should be formidible when paired with Necromancers using hex builds.
There have been some other minor game tweaks made. Recall has been reigned in as well as Blurred Vision. Warriors’ Agonizing chop has an invisible buff which should encourage players to chain with something other than Eviscerate. Rangers’ Crippling Shot has been restored to 10 energy points and Melandru’s Resiliance has been majorly buffed. Soul Reaping has been rebalanced again, but the effects will be most noticable in PvE play.
Most of these balancing tweaks are likely to become permanent. Although game play shouldn’t change radically, players can expect to see some new GvG experimentation with Mesmer roles.
