Guitar Hero III Guitars Having Issues

guitar-hero-iii-les-paul-guitar.jpg

Some gamers who picked up the new Les Paul guitars when Guitar Hero III was released recently have been complaining of various problems with the guitar, ranging from nonfunctional buttons and strum bars to sound issues. While these may be isolated issues, there certainly are a number of them, so potential buyers might want to be wary of picking the game and guitar up in the meantime.

There are a ton of threads on the official Guitar Hero forums, with a thread dedicated solely to the problem being posted by Activision. If you are having issues, you should visit that thread and provide the information that’s been requested to help Activision get to the bottom of this.

I guess I’m lucky that my local GameStop was sold out.

It’s the Kramer for the PS2, but none the less some games are having problems, mine is very weird. I have the Wii version and I bought all the SG finishes, and only red and black show up  makes no sense.

The first day of playing GH III for the 360 I had the unresponsive fret issue on almost every song I played, but for some reason it rarely (if ever) happens now.

I had a non-responsive fret as soon as I opened by copy. I promptly boxed it back up, took it back to GameStop, and exchanged it for a new copy. No problems since.

i am hearing a lot of these stories about people having guitars that do not work for them, then when they exchange it for a new one, there are no problems, am i to assume that they have recalled these faulty guitars and are now selling properly working ones?

friggin hell i have the same problem. i took off the extenable neck and i think i see the reason. the connection SUCKS! 6 pins from the guitar body to 6 flat pads in the neck. that would work great if my kramer’s neck was tight/snug when it waas in the locked position. but it doesnt.. it moves slightly. and that breaks the connection. basically if you held them together to make sure of good contact it would work… but right now it doesnt. i may actually just take some solder and touch up the pads so they stick out a bit more. what a cheap design.

I just bought GHIII for my PS2, and my guitar isn’t responding at all, Brand New outta the box and nothing. so I have resorted to using the duelshock controller, but the guitar was the whole damn reason why i bought the game!!!

I bought GH III for PS2 (I know, I’m a bit behind) and got the two piece les paul guitar. The problem with it is the connection becomes unstable because of the two-piece configuration. Activision needs to correct this problem. So, I need to return it, but most likely, this will be a problem with all of the two-piece controllers (I mean, I gotta rock it out and show some style!). Very cheap design. They at least could have made the locking mechanism nice and tight. They need to fix this or go back to the one-piece.

I have the Kramer guitar for GHIII on the PS2. I had the same problem w/ the green button not working but after disconnecting and reconnecting the guitar neck, it worked fine w/ GH3. HOWEVER, now that I try to play Encore, Rocks the 80′s, I can navigat through the menus w/ the guitar, but it won’t respond during play. The duelshock will work during play.

Any ideas anyone?

I also have the Kramer for PS2 (GH3). The problem is definetly how the neck locks into the body, very crappy design. NOthing ensures a good connection with that model, it seems they cared more about being able to detach the neck then play a song without malfunctions. I noticed that it has some movement so if the buttons arent responding or not staying down on the screen for a chord, try pulling down on the neck into the body nd it should make a nice improvement. I would return mine, but not after putting stickers on for an hour.

I bought GH 3 last night at GameStop, took it home, assembled everything and connected eveything, yet somehow when I turn on the LP controller and connect it to slot #1, the lights blink for about 20 seconds and then it turns off. I’ve done everything the manual says, which was designed to do a poor job of helping me. There goes $100 down the drain. I better be able to replace it. What am I doing wrong?!?!?

If the warranty is gone, and you have guitar with nonresponding fretbuttons, just open the guitar up, with torx-screwdriver, and solder wires in place of the crappy pin-pcb-non-contact-thing.

You lose the necks detachability but get working GH wireless controller.

Problem solved, thanks redoctane/activision for making such crap controllers.

I got GH 3 and it worked perfectly for a while. Then one day the guitar just didn’t connect (like a year later or less) I haven’t been able to play it for at least a year. I would buy a new one but I already put all those y stickers on them, plus i’ve had it too long. I am so pissed. >:(

I had the problem of being able to control the menus in GH Rock of the 80s, but not during the game. I switched the wireless connector to controller port one and unplugged my dual shock controller. Then I reset the wireless connector. Works great. I think the PS2 thought I was using the dual shock to play the game.
