Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PC) Patch v1.1 Lovin'

GH3 header

Yep, it looks like PC owners of Guitar Hero III are getting some update love thanks to the guys over at Aspyr (who, by the way, did an impressive job porting GH3 to the PC). This update seems to offer a handful of bug fixes, graphical tweaks, and minor feature additions. You can read the release notes after the break.

A question that is still being asked among the various forum goers is will Aspyr/Activision be putting effort towards getting DLC to the PC? Also, what about stat linking (PC) to the guitarhero.com website? Or is a PC platform too “hackable” for this feature to gel?

It’s well understood that the PC voice is a minority here. However, I guess Aspyr can only do so much within the feature bubble Activision has given them. We’ve heard Activision’s promise of bringing DLC to the Wii in 2008. And we’ve also seen the backlash of Wii owners for their mono-riffic GH3 purchase. With all of these varied cross-platform versions of the same game, are we gamers pretty much rolling the dice when it comes to choosing a game for a particular platform before hearing a final verdict? Or should we be examining the fine print closely instead of simply expecting each cross-platform version to be equal in features? I can’t help but laugh at the thought of game companies calling us spoiled little brats behind our backs. Anyway…

Yeah, the sound is scratchy on mine and the gaps occur frequently. I just upgraded the RAM and the Video card since opening a ticket with ASSpyr. The initial one was closed because the RAM was too low, now there is no excuse. It is easy to blame a PC instead of fixing the code, I develop for a living, and this IS a bug. Anyway, check out the crappy ticket resolution below. Maybe confirming the damn “general things to be aware of” FAQ prior to purchasing software is what they do, the rest of us assume that the program will be at the very least playable when we blow 90 bucks.

Oh and bu the way WTF are the 360 drivers mentioned in their reply?? Maybe I should check the FAQ to see if I need to plug my pc into my 360 to stop the gaps?

Thank you for contacting Aspyr Media.

Unfortunately your machine does not meet the minimum requirements for Guitar Hero III. The game requires a minimum of 2 GB of RAM for a Windows Vista machine. Your 1.5 GB of RAM may be contributing to your static problem. The rest of your system specs appear fine, but due to the RAM we will not be able to support your machine.

There are some general things to be aware of with the Guitar Hero 3 controller.

As listed in our Knowledge Base general thing to be aware of with the controller are:

- Only have your keyboard, mouse and guitar plugged into your usb inputs.
- Be sure that the guitar is plugged in before you launch the game.
- Do not use the keyboard when the game is launched, just use the guitar to navigate the menus.
- Do not unplug the guitar during game play.

-Do not load any 360 drivers to your machine prior to installing the game, this will confuse things. If you did do that, then uninstall the game. Unplug the guitar and then reinstall Guitar Hero 3

I hope this information is helpful.

Have a nice day,

indeed gil. you tell them.
your one of the people who isn’t a complete retard about this.
i knew this was a bug from the beginning since changing graphic settings didnt change a thing.
thats odd.
on my machine,
with 800×600 res.
crowd off
graphics low
and physics off.
it made no difference.
either way the game runs perfectly with like above 120 fps or so :O absolutely flawless. and then suddenly like almost every 10 secs the starts to lag as hell :| i see the fretboard stopping and moving rapidly, like a flashlight thats goes on and off very fast.
and then ASSpyr (like your said it :D ) and all the other tards say. upgrade your pc :| wtf am i suppossed to upgrade :| should i put an agaiea fysx card in my computer :| is that it. come on. be reasonable here.
its a freaking code bug or something with hardware support gone wrong i dont know. but like you showed us asspyr smoothely talks over it. hell i almost start to think, seeing the faq part you showed, that they get payed by company’s that build RAM chips to screw their code and then say its something with your computer :| thats BS.
i sure hope they give us patch 1.2 ASAP!!!! cos this is just stealing from people. i payed 90 freagin Euro for it :| and what do i get. a crappy PORT of a game thats is done poorly, and they send you to a wall and tell you that aint true.
sick asspyr, they MUST build patch 1.2 in like 1 week or so, cos i guess else people ‘ll start suing them. at least. i would encourage that
greets everyone,

Sooooooooo idk what exactly you people are complaining about, but there’s nothing wrong with GH3 pc. I’ve already beaten it once, and there were no graphics problems whatsoever, and i’m even on vista x64, which they CLAIM doesn’t work (but they’re probly just saying because i have to restart with the guitar plugged in for it to recognize it in-game…thus i suppose not FULLY supported). What exactly are you people complaining about? I’ve got quad core 2.67 ghz, 4 gb ram, geforce 8800ultra, and vista x64 and everything’s fine. Stop complaining maybe? It’s an AWESOME port, every review i see says it too, so maybe the minority (you) should take a peek at your machine and see what the difference is, because everyone else is having a great time with this game and saying how great it is and how good it looks.

no mna you are one of the exclusive people with who the game does work. congratulatios. it is an very bad port. you are just lucky.
there is an major bug thats makes it unplayable for us.
i really love the game. thats not the problem. but i paid 90 dollar and they made the game wrongcoded somewhere wich makes it unplayable for me.
everything runs fine. and then suddenly when your doing like really good. the screen suddenly freezes for a split second. but it does that like 10 second long everytime. you get a split second normal play then the freeze and so on. thats cos there is a bug somewhere in the game :(
there is nothing wrong with the machine.
with some of us its just not working. im very glad for you it works fine with you.
cos you paid top price for the game.
and its more the majority of people with who it doesnt work.
and i agree it looks pretty good. the gameplay is extremely cool :P thats why i bought it. but im pissed i paid so much for a game they did not port good.
i really cant play the game now. it pisses me of when im like doing extremely good on expert level then the last 10 seconds of the song it does his freezing bug wich makes you not perfect the song :@ thats really annoying :(
i dont hate the game. i hate aspyr for making such a bad port. they really didnt look at the code good enough.
i sure hope they fix is as soon as possible cos i really like guitar hero :(
no offence to you but this is a problem a lot of people experience.
i wish you a lot of fun with the game cos it rocks big time. :P

hey hey hey, lets be nice about it huh? not everyone is as tech savvy as others, and not everyone builds their own machine (like me).
But he has, under the flame, a decent point…do you have the most recent drivers? Also, if you have an geforce8800 and vista you might need to update to their newest beta driver, as they’ve been having problems. I had that issue a while ago but its long since been fixed

I have a core 2 6600 quad with 2GB Ram and a Nvidia 8500. Brand new computer, no other programs installed, only mouse/keyboard/guitar plugged in and I am seeing the exact same lag problems as described above. I have to ignore the video sometimes and just play along with the song hoping I’m hitting the right notes, because the video stutters and lags and messes you up.

MaroonWarrior71

On December 30, 2007 at 2:31 am

Well, for all you folks out there with the 8×00 series, you might want to check nvidia’s beta drivers, as lag is going to be a problem for everyone regardless of what high-end game your playing. I have this issue too with my 8800ultra, and its not just with GH3 (occasionally I see just a tad bit of lag…not enough to mess with anything but i know its there). That’s why I didn’t bother mentioning it before…its not a GH3 issue, its an nvidia issue. I see that slight lag in other programs as well. Update your drivers regularly (and frequently) and you should be fine.

Well I finally got a honest response from Aspyr – I thanked them for that. If anyone has a place to host the file that was enclosed, I will be happy to share it. The issue in my case proved to be a weird conflict with the NVIDIA drivers. Strangely, I finally was able to eliminate this issue bu ROLLING BACK the latest drivers. So if you are having the messed up sound or the hanging video, try different driver combinations – yeah, it was a pain.

For those that are complaining about the ing and moaning sorry to hear it, but it seems that this is a thread where people are looking for a solution to their issues not asking you to comment on their misfortune or how brilliant you feel when you call someone you don;t know a dumbass. Look over the response and you will note that there are issues with specific card/mobo/memory combinations – Like there will always be. Chill and have a brew.

Cheers and happy new year.

Hello,

You may wish to try the attached guitar drivers. Also the problem you are discribing is very unusual however we have come upon it before though customers only we can’t seem to replicate the problem in hous. There seems to be a USB conflict on a specific motherboard by Asus. It only happens on this one motherboard and has a rather interesting fix. The only way the few customers with this problem are able to get the static to go away is to add a PCI or PCI-E, USB card to the computer. As a rule we do not like to have to tell our customers that the only way to fix a problem is to add hardware to the computer unless the computer does not meet the requirements. Unfortunately at this point we have not yet been able to find another solution.

Have a nice day,

I have a AMD AM2 6000+ (3ghz Dual Core), Abit Mobo, 4GB Ram, Geforce 8800 Ultra running XP SP2. I’ve notice FPS drop bigtime since I’ve installed this game, I used to be able to push 74 fps in Warcraft, but I dropped down to 33. I noticed after I installed new nVidia drivers, I pushed back, no real change. I unplugged the Xplorer, FPS is back to normal.

I notice a lot of times that the guitar is not recognizing my button presses, or sometimes its as if I’m holding down the strum bar non stop. In Control Panel, things seem to be working fine..

I’m up to Rage Against The Machine guitarist on Hard difficulty. I went back to easy and songs like Rain In Blood for whatever reason aren’t registering strums in sync, all the time.

This game is so fun but it doesnt work right. it pauses every 3 seconds making it impossible to hit all of the notes…and i have a kickass computer with a kickass video card so im pretty sure its not the machine. maybe its something with the drivers? i wouldnt know what to fix in that case though. Anybody else with this problem that knows what to do? The patch helped a little bit but then 2 days later it was back to ty performance again. helppp meeee pleaseee!!!

Hi:

I have a fix for the problems involving the guitar controller on Guitar Hero III for the PC. If you are using the original guitar from the pc package, then run the xnacc.inf file from the file that I have ready for you. If you are using an xbox guitar then run the xusb21.inf file from the same zip file that I have ready for you. I am at rcamp45@rogers.com, if you are needing the file just email me , and I will email it to you. The file is 15 meg in size, so make sure that your email program will transfer the file.

Thanks ……. Russ Campbell (rcamp45@rogers.com)

Its just the coding that is the problem, nothing else, i have three people in different system setups, it just lags from time to time. stop ing, stfu, for those who actually bought this game dont even bother contacting the supplier, it is purchased “as is”, for those who got it by other means, again, please be silent as you just gonna make your self look like a fool for whining about a game that you got for free.

P.S If you are good enough you dont even need the screen to be in sync with what you are playing.

Same thing here also with this lag problem. Earlier I had Sempron 3400+ processor installed on to my HTPC, and I thought it was too slow for this game, although there wasn’t so big difference between 1024×768 and 1280×720 resolutions. The game was fully playable (I have only Radeon 9800PRO 128Mb, but I think it should be fast enough for this game??) and the amount of memory shouldn’t be a problem either, there is 2GB installed. So, I bought X2 A64 5000+ processor and the lag grew so bad that it was almost impossible to play the whole game..!? But the main problem was on Windows XP, I had to install few X2 processor patches from MS and also drivers from AMD and now the game is “rolling” rather good. But still there are some occasionally stops and jams on the game, so I think there has to be something on the game code which are causing those annoying slowdowns.

don’t buy this for PC. my computer runs world of warcraft at 80 fps, team fortress 2 at 99 fps, counter strike, call of duty 4, every game u can think of runs no problem. then this game freezes up halfway through a song, so it’s just a waste of money

NEW HARDWARE! X-plorer Controller! plug back into dad’s rig. Unknown USB device. he reloaded XP (32Bit?)(64Bit Prosc.?) and it still dont friggin work. help?????

Like I can’t even beat the first songs on easy and I know i’m able to it says I don’t hit the right notes. It like skips and stuff and my computer is new so it shouldn’t do that. And the thing is if I go to practice i’m able to hit the notes so it sucks that I can’t finish a song in the career mode..

Sounds like some have hardware compatability issues perhaps, or systems that are off the shelf POS……
The game works very well indeed (as long as you don’t mind the graphics set to lowest settings) on my system which I designed and built myself.
It’s not even new haveing been built over a year ago now.
System:
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2520 MHz
L2 cache 512 KB
2 GB RAM, and no it’s not even DDR2 just plain onld DDR.
All planted on a ASUS A8N5X main board.
Vid: Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum pro.

I have tried this game both in the 32 bit and 64 bit XP pro OS and found it to run much better 64 bit. I have not as yet acertained if this is because my 64 bit OS is less clutterd….. LOL

My only gripe would have to be that as yet there is no patch availible under the 64 bit OS…. At least not that I can find.

Cheers, KiTTy….

It’s not my hardware. I have no problems running all the latest games on max (Bioshock, Crysis {on high}, etc.). What give s with this game?

I’ll just stick to Frets on Fire. Smooth as silk.

It’s because it’s a ported game. Platforms like PS2-3, XboX360, Wii is working a lot better with games in common. That’s why you all got lagspikes and general lag. And btw Aspyr is working on it.

On February 13, 2008 at 4:05 pm

Ok, first off, there are no bugs or anything that cause the guitar neck to stop and start randomly, 1 reason this may happen is background applications possibly slowing down your computer(doesn’t matter how much RAM you have, it will just steal more) such as antivirus’ or Chat programmes(like MSN, Steam etc.) I have a 4800 dual core processor with a RAEDON X1900 Graphics card and 1GB (yes, 1 gig) of RAM. it plays fine. im not ing, or saying other people are wrong, just dont always accuse its the developers fault when they tell you its your fault. they may be right, but they could provide the wrong solution. hope this helps!

DAMN PATCH!!!
When i didn’t have the patch installed yes it lagged like hell, but i never had it freeze during a song for like 3 – 4 seconds then go all the way to where it should be which i mean it goes to fast for you to hit notes and then it goes bk to normal tempo. What the hell ppl?
i’m running:
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R)
CPU: 2.40 GHz (2391 MHz)
Memory: 256 MB
Direct X version: 9.0c
Rom and Ram are unknown

It dosen’t really lag when it’s on a close up on a person but when its like on the whole band it lags little much, but it stops for a little while then catches up to where it supose to be and i fail the song I’M SO ING PISSED!

Julian

On February 17, 2008 at 6:00 pm

I have the same problem as Jon. Before the patch it would lag multiple times in a song but never freeze. After the patch, no lag but it will freeze for about 3 seconds and the speed up super fast to get back on pace. I meet the minimum specs and i’ve read a lot places that my video card is actually better in certain aspects than the recommeneded hd 2600…that’s why I got it. I’m definitely convinced that this is a problem with the game rather than my pc.

I have the settings on Low Graphic Detail, 1024×768,
Crowd, Physics and Lens Flare on – I don’t even know what Lens Flare is
I’ve tried audio calibration, but nothing works

When i’m running the game, everything else is closed except Virus Protection.

I’m going to try re-installing the patch and rolling back my graphics drivers.

Well it don’t lag for me ore something like that bu i have another problem!
I CAN’T SEE THE ING FRETSBOARD OR THE START MENY!!!

Ben

On February 20, 2008 at 9:22 pm

If you have no menu or fretboard, you might have anitaliasing and/or anisotropic filtering forced on by your drivers.

I found if you make sure to turn them off in Catalyst Control Centre it’s fine.

My card is a Radeon x1900xtx

i’ve been all fine and good up until I set the game to connect to “online services”, since then, all day it has been lagging and freezing. It was a little tiny bit off before, but I could deal with it and still go for 100+ note streaks.

My rig:

AMD64x2 3800+ (64 bit patch installed)
ABIT KN9 SLI mobo
3 Gb DDR2 800 MHz OCZ Platinum memory
NVidia 7300 GS (OC’d through Ntune)
*fancy case w/ clear side*(very important for performance)

Now, I’ve noticed once I set it to automatically connect every time the game starts, while playing, by myself, quick play, I notice my NIC going nuts as well as the switch(network activity). What the fcuk is all this about? since observing this, I’ve noticed horrible lag and freezing. I’m not utilizing the services, so why the fcuk is it generating network traffic?

  Is it a plot to invade my privacy and go through my files?  JK

I don’t know what you people are complaining about. I don’t experience any bugs/glitches/pauses/lag in game and I haven’t installed this patch yet.

My specs:
AMD Opteron 180 Dual Core 2.4ghz
2gb ram
Nvidia 8800GT 512 mb

im almost certain alot of the glitches (it you have decent hardware isnt because of the game. its because of your mainboard. if you have an asus mobo such as sthe ASUS M2NeSLI you will get pwnd and need a pci usb hub as stated before.
if you are experiencing troubles all you can really do is wait for 1.2 patch or just keep downloading different drivers some work really well with this game some dont

just be patient guys there will be a fix out soon. honestly think about how many people want to play this game on pc theres alot of cluey blokes out there theres guna be a fix soon i am sure

Well, like the majority of the people here, I have lag and the screen jumps on me. I tried calibrating the video, which, improved it somewhat, but…It’s still not anywhere near to what it should be. I tried the game on high settings low settings, I set my CCC to high and low settings, and this game just lags and causes me to miss notes that I’m hitting right on the money for sure. My PC definitely has the minimum requirements. 2.5 ram, half gig video card… Nothing’s running in the background either. Just guitar hero and windows xp.

By the way, I have three different setups at home. I have 2 different vista setups, and an xp setup, none of which work right.

As for these people that are complaining about other peoples complaining, give it a rest. Good for you; yours works, just leave it alone. Nothing like rubbing it in people like me’s faces that some work and ours just doesn’t.

Aspyr did a crappy job.
After many upgrades to my machine that cost more than a console the game now runs fine but the patch says game not found and after almost 4 months there is still no downloadble content.
Granted it looks much better on my PC than on a console but who the hell cares about graphics on a game like guitar hero ? just make it run smoothly on midrange machines and feed some new songs from time to time.

really I am dissapointed.

ive read through ALOT of these posts regarding poor performance of guitar hero 3 pc. in all but a few cases these people are complaining that ther computers “should” work. did any of you even look at the box and see what is required??? bare minimum spec on ANY game is not what you aim for, but rather the recommended specs. stop assuming things and freaking read before you complain. ive had this gamew running on 4 different rigs ranging from a bottom end 3700+ with 1 gig ram and a 7900gs (all settings low @ 800×600) to my gaming rig 6400 2 gig ram 8800gt 512 (all settings high @ 1900×1200) and my new htpc 5200 2 gig ram 9600gt 512. all asus brand boards. all using onboard usb ports. all using 1.1 patch. i get the odd lag on the 3700……duh..its at the bottom of the barrel spec wise for this game.

I have an AMD 3800+ (dual core, 4GHZ), Geforce 7600GT card (one of the lowest supported cards), 2 gigs of ram on Windows XP.

The game ran fairly well without the patch in 1024×768(?) resolution with everything turned on, until some of the more graphical stages. Now with the patch installed, at 800×600 and medium crowd setting, it works nearly flawlessly.

People need to remember that some video cards just are NOT designed for gaming. Also, 1GB of ram in WinXP might not be enough to run this as well as it needs to.

Matthew

On March 14, 2008 at 7:31 pm

whoops typo there ^^ should read dual core, 2Ghz

Jimbo

On March 21, 2008 at 1:55 pm

Setup:

Gateway Intel quad-core (purchased new Nov. 2007)
Windows Vista Premium with latest service pack patch
NVidia 8500GT with latest driver (169.25)
Upgraded to 650Watt Power Supply
GH3 with 1.1 patch

before and after all the above patches the game would freeze mid-song and require a Hard Reboot to unfreeze the computer

the last frozen frame would have color dots all over and the sound would be stuck in a loud fast noise loop

bad video card?
incompatibility between vista 32-bit and NVidia drivers?
something else?

Robert

On March 24, 2008 at 3:00 pm

I dunknow what you guys are talking about. Game seems to run at a smooth 70FPS with the following hardware
AMD dual core 3800
2 gigs Patriot DDR2 PC6400 Ram
GeForce 7950GT
Soundblaster Live! 24bit
Vista Home Basic 32 bit

However i am pissed about no downloadable songs yet. WTH?

Jimbo

On March 24, 2008 at 5:58 pm

Before all the patching sometimes the pc would freeze the same way on media player. After searching other forums I’m starting to suspect the video card:

8500GT

some people to fix their computers (running vista or xp) have:
1) rolled back their forceware driver to 173.xx
2) or disabled hardware accelleration
3) or disabled the Nvidia driver and allowed the Windows default driver

I’m considering abandoning NVidia and switching to ATI

Mike

On April 28, 2008 at 3:43 am

Hmm. Having beta tested a few games, I have seen that the differences in motherboard chipsets to be a major issue. Twice now when a game is still in alpha I have helped identify problems with chipset compatibility. One being Mythos if you want to look it up, threads may still be online. It was found that the game would lag out and disconnect with anyone running nForce 3/4. nForce 2 and others like via were ok.
The slowest PC i have here is a 2.2Ghz AMD dual core with 2Gb ram and a 7900GS graphics card, running onboard network and audio. It has no issues with the game at all, even on high settings. I know many of you here could crush that system.

now having said that, the issue with Mythos was solved by tweaking the onboard net driver. Could a similar idea work here?

I have a serious problem.
i installed a No-CD poatch because my mate wanted to borrow it, but the patch made the game suddenly stop playing sound half-way through a song. so, i deleted my entire GH3 folder (i couldn’t be botghered to wait for the installer to take 5 hours to realize i had installed Guitar Hero 3) but, when i went to re-install it, it was convinced Guitar hero was still install,ed, as the only options i had in the Setup was “repair” and “remove”. I tried both, and they both froze halfway through. therefore, i cannot install Guitar hero until i reinstall windows, deleting everything.

Help Anybody?

Hey guys,

I too have GH3 for PC and am noticing a very interesting trend… it appears that the high end Intel processors (Core 2 Duos, Quad Cores etc) with Asus motherboards and 8800GT’s are having the problems… well guess what – I’m having issues too.

I’ve recently upgraded my AMD 4600+ which had an Asus M2N-E Motherboard, XFX 8800GT 512MB, 2GB DDR2 800RAM, XP Pro which worked absolutely perfectly.. never missed a beat, patch installed fine and ran perfectly however a few newer games were being let down by my AMD 4600+ so decided to go the latest and greatest:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
Asus P5K-Pro motherboard
XFX 8800GT 512MB
2GB DDR2 800 RAM
XP Pro…

Guitar Hero 3 constantly has the jitters when the notes are going down the fretboard.. I’ve had a few lockups AND the latest patch 1.1 comes up and tells me that GH3 isn’t even installed on my system! I’ve been in touch with Activision with this problem and nothing has worked.. I even reformatted last night to start from scratch and still the same thing…

For arguments sake I installed it on the Macbook (windows side).. tried the patch and it too said the software wasn’t found! So.. I’m seriously wondering if this game is only optimized for AMD based systems? it’s pretty darn unplayable with the notes having the jitters as they go down the frets.. I’ve tried the latest NVidia drivers which are still jittering.. and every other game runs fine (3dMark 06 gets 12596!)

Please Aspyr/Activision.. release a v1.2 which fixes this! It’s not just a once off.. I paid $150 for this game and now it’s pretty much unplayable :(

**** with the software not found problem*******

if you are using any form of cracked .exe file (nodvd for example) u will need to just delete the gh3.exe file and then go to repair option in add/remove programs with the gh3 cd in.

then u can patch. i suppose if u backed up the original .exe u could always just restore it..but i didnt so thats what i had to do and it worked just fine!

Just got the game…I must say that PC port is crap. Before patching it I had a bug when each song ended prematurely, altough the game treated it like everything was normal (I could get a 100% on a song without playing it completely  ) The 1.3 patch fixed it but in exchange now almost everytime I play a song, the game frezees for like 5 seconds in a random moment, then it speeds up like hell for 3 seconds and then it gets back to normal. It could happen even twice during a song  . I almost completely stopped playing the game since then

“Bought it, got home, waited about 15 minutes for the damn thing to load onto my comp, try to play and NOPE, “GH3 Does not support your graphics card” WTF? Waste of money.”

Rofl gotta love when people call a game a waste of money cause they are too stupid to read the min specs and only find out after they bought it that their 4 year old VGA isnt supported.

Not a waste of money, more like a waste of life. LEARN TO READ

“Made an impressive job porting the game to-” What the hell?
My specs are good, hell, I can run Crysis on low-medium hybrid without any major problems – but GH3 is just plain bull. Aspyr didn’t optimize the game AT ALL. If I didn’t know better, I’d think they had just popped in a X360 DVD of Guitar Hero III, Copied and Pasted the files and then slapped their logo all over it.

I know we’ve got to move on in hardware, but I have, and I find it hillarious for a PC port of a game to require the specs of an Xbox 360 to play firmly. Aspyr can blow me until they firmly patch away all this lag.

I have no idea what you guys are complaining about. The game runs perfect for me.

AMD Opteron 2.4ghz (2.8 OC) Dual core
Nividia GeForce 8800 GT

Every song runs smooth as butter and everything is perfectly in sync. Highest graphics settings by the way.

someone can anyone please tell me why it isnt working?

Tom and nhommon, scroll up and read – patches will say game is not installed if you have a No-CD fix on, remove it and repair/reinstall, or replace your backed up original .exe if you have one.

Hi i’m buying GH3 but i’m wondering if my PC can run it.
Specs:
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ
1GB RAM.
and a HD2600 XT.
Thanks for the answers in advance

@Emil

Well, it looks like you are running 20 inch mac, lol.

No worries, I have the same exact specs but with 2 gigs of ram.

You need one more gig of RAM and you’ll do fine. Also, get BitDefender as your antivirus cause of its game mode. OTherwise, it will lag occaionally in the game.

Yet, it is completely playable.

I must officially state that Guitar Hero 3 PC is the failest port
ever. Whether it will work fine on your pc or not is a motherin’
lottery. If you wanna avoid stress problems don’t in buy this
game. Seriously, it’s the cases like these that makes people screw
PC gaming and buy a console.

My config:
CPU: Intel Celeron D running at 3.4 GHz
RAM: 1GB
VideoCard: Radeon 9800 PRO
OS: Windows XP SP2 (32-bit)
patch: 1.1

A lot of times when I started the game, it said Game content is corrupt. I click CONTINUE WITHOUT SAVING, go to OPTIONS–>SAVE/LOAD and when I manually load it, it’s fine.

I deleted the videos before loading, and the problem almost disappeared. What’s wrong?

Tristan

On July 29, 2008 at 8:56 am

Game works perfectly fine here, specs:
Intel Q6600 @ 3.6ghz
2x 2900XT (CrossfireX)
Gigabyte P35 DS4
2x seagate barracuda 320GB (Raid-0)
Windows XP 64bit

It’s needed to modify the installer, else it won’t install on xp 64bit, but when that’s done it works fine.
Playing @ 1920×1200 everything @ high.
No lagg or whatsoever, it’s better than on xbox360 (super smooth and better graphics)

I also built my pc myself, It’s not top of the line but it should be able to put colored dots on the screen without lagging. I agree it’s probably a code problem, though what confuses me is why they haven’t made a patch to fix it yet yet. I mean this game is giving Aspyr such a bad name. It’s not like they haven’t gotten enough money from us to put together a team to fix it.
this really sucks because I love this game and am not willing to by some game console to fix it

I have fixed the lag on my PC
Indeed in GH3 there were jumps and in medium+ it was unplayable.

Here’s how I improved it:
After you start the game , press cntrl-alt-delete ,
start task manager
go to processes
Change the priority of the game to ‘High’

This will give more CPU power to the game , it will run better.
In addition , set Video configuration to minimum.

For people with radom lock ups on windows xp home edition.Try installing SP3 for windows help alot. I had this game running on an AMD 4000 single core 2gb ram and 7600 gt. Just use some common sense Set the graphics to low turn off physics {what physics ?}turn off crowd {very relistic lol} keep the front row cam ON. Trust me your not losing much with the setting on low or off not much of a graphical game seems to be more cpu and ram dependent. uses 1.25 gb of ram when running. HOPE THIS HELPS SOME PEOPLE {SP3 for windows XP} Seemed to help my system. Good luck all

Ok I’m going to be getting a new laptop here in a few days. Here are the specs:

OS: Vista Home Premium x64
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

So the main issue: It said on the back that it won’t ‘support’ 64bit Vista. ‘Support’ and ‘not run’ are different things. Will it still work?

Well I just bought the last GH3 in the state from Best Buy for $60 and I am very pleased with it. I’m running on a Vista laptop with 2GB ram and a decent gfx card, and GH3 runs impressively. Aside from occasional very slight lags here and there, nothing else seems problematic, besides, I’m pretty sure the lag comes from a background process such as McAfee.

None of the patches worked for me however (1.1, 1.3, 1.31), so I checked the initially installed GH3.exe and it seems the CD now comes with the pre-patched exe. My version says it’s 1.3.68131.

I’ve been having issues with my GH3 “lagging”. I thought for sure it was a video card issue, so I upgraded my Nvidia7600GS to a AMD4670. Though I am now able to put graphics on high and things look great, it still lags no matter what quality it is set at. And by “lag”, I mean the fretboard jumps every couple seconds, it’s small, but very noticeable on a rhythm based game.

My system is older, but I would assume should be able to handle it – NForce4 mobo, AMD4600x2 processor (2.4ghz dual core), 74GB WD Raptor, 2 gigs of RAM, and now a AMD4670 graphics card. I have the newest version of AMD dual core optimizer.

I checked task manager, and it seems that it wants to run on only one core, running at 100% no matter what. I checked on my laptop (Dell Vostro1500 – Core2Duo@1.6Ghz with 2GB RAM and 8400GS graphics), and not only does it not lag, but the game spreads CPU usage easily over both cores.

I’ve messed with both the priority and affinity of the game in TaskManager. Changing priority does help, but changing the affinity can give interesting results. It maxes out the second Core by default, but if I switch it to only the first, and then open both cores, it sometimes magically spreads itself over both cores. When spread over both cores, it works amazingly – no lag on the fretboard whatsoever.

I have also noticed that sometimes I have better luck when the Xplorer guitar is not plugged in. I have heard some fixes that require a PCI USB adapter, but I’ll try my best to avoid adding another card.

Has anyone else noticed the dual-core CPU issue, and came up with a fix better than just messing with Affinity’s?

I have a ThinkPad Laptop with a 2.1Ghz Dual Core processor, 2GB ram, XP, NVIDIA Quadro graphics card (very basic graphics card – but a discrete one on my laptop) and the game seems to run fine. Sure, its not as nice as a PS3 in the sense that you can tell that the frame rate isn’t as fast, but since the game never pauses you can play it just fine.

vista home premiun 32bit
2GB ram
1.9GHz AMD Turion
about 256MB video memory (ATI Radeon Xpress 1250)

and i only have slight lag. and thats also counting my 2 anti-viruses in the background, and nearly full hard drive. just slight lag.

the only thing i feel comfortable flaming aspyr for is the keyboard controls. most keyboards have a ‘key limit’ which limits the amount of keys that it can register at one time. the default is 3 at a time, so how do they expect you to do chords? or maybe my keyboard just sucks

wow I don’t know why people are whining..I have a pentium 4, 3 gig single core with hyper threading 1 gig of ram (yes only 1 gig) and its old ddram not even ddr2 . I am running an ati 2600 512 meg vid card with a ac97 audio card and guess what..runs absolutly flawless..couldn’t be any happier..oh btw am running it at max resolution and highest graphic settings as well as my card options being set to 4X antialiasing and 4 times anistropic filtering..as well I am not running a raid drive on the machine either am running a simple old seagate ide drive..nothing special right..and guess what ruuns beautifully..not one hickup..for those who are having probs..I would bet my life you either have a pc thats not etup well or are one who downloads so much that they have many worms in there system..and please don’t go giving me saying my system is clean I scan it and its clean..fact theres no such freakin thing ok..if you have internet and have been online for a month..theres bound to be something thats not supposed to be there..there is no software on the planet capable of keeping windows totally clean and furthermore theres no software out there that will detect everything..period…and before anyone calls me a tard I have a 12 year degree in computer science..so please don’t give me this about its bad game coding..cause it is an excellent..and my theory is this..if it were a bug it would be the same on all machines..if its something that happens on a few and not all..well theres a reason for it and thats cause theres something causing it within those systems..people are lazy they would rather blame the game company instead of looking for the actual reason..either that or there retards who don’t know what to look for

I have the problem of lag..Lag every 2-3 notes. Funny thing is the game is running at a constant 60fps  .

My Pc Spec.
Vista 64bit Sp1
Intel q9450 @ 3.2ghz
4gig of ddr2 @ 1066
Hd3870 825/1250
All drivers up to date.

No virus or spy ware/ no anti-virus software running in the back ground.
CPU at ide Is 2-3%

When i play i only see 10-15% of my CPU been used!!
Also GPU not going over 30% ?? why is that??

I am using the wireless 360 Guitar/Game patch 1.31.

My pc plays crysis better then this game..
GH3 = Crappy PORT..Wast of money

Dose the game need some special serves running to play with no lag???

MaroonWarrior71 look at all the comments and search google for guitar hero pc problem, and tell me its a good port… Porting good means high compatibility, wich this useless crap obviously does not have.
But it takes brains to see the big picture here, i wont hold it against you.

Ok someone please help me out here. I bought my Guitar Hero 3 about 5 months ago. It worked great for 3 months then all of a sudden stopped working all together one day. It wont even start now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it like 20 times and it still wont work. Everytime I try to start the game a notification comes up instead saying, “Guitar Hero 3 has stopped working properly, Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.” No solution is ever found btw….How do I fix this?

For everyone complaining, download two things, 3D Analyzer and Guitar Hero Three Control Panel. The second one is optional but go to http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44851&highlight=3danalyzer
for the analyzer and follow the instructions. This should help out a lot. There are other ways to improve, one involves downloading GHTCP and turning on speed boost

Yes that is a Commodore Monitor. Still works after all these years. (Hope I do not jinx it.) A s-video cable works perfectly with the rear input of the monitor (chroma/luma split?), I have a large screen analog tv. s-video > composite > vcr (as a modulator> TV could be an interesting combination. Make it last!!! We ignore the industry that says we should chunk that old stuff.Could become part of a crude oscilloscope in a worst case scenario,
