Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock Guitars Go Modular

500x_gh1If you are like me, you have a massive storage issue already for the gazillion plastic fake instruments in your home thanks to the explosion of the music game genre. Between Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Band Hero, The Beatles Rock Band and Rock Band 2 its safe to say I don’t NEED another plastic guitar.

Gawker’s hardware site Gizmodo broke the news with a newly revealed bundled Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock guitar controller. This toy make me wish I actually wanted a new guitar controller.

We’ve seen all sorts of guitar imitation hardware but this version looks to spice it up a bit and move away from the constraints of reality with a highly stylized “axe” appearance and the option to swap out the body of the unit at a whim. The older guitars were effectively uni-body designs, but this iteration consolidates all the electronics, buttons and wireless components into the unit’s neck and central line allowing owners to buy custom body designs and snap them on around the central core of the guitar.

Gamestop is already on-board and hoping this new tactic will re-ignite the plastic instrument market by offering a custom body to gamers who pre-order Activision’s upcoming game. These new guitars are fully backward compatible with previous Guitar Hero games. No pricing was revealed at this time and its not clear when the stand alone units will be for sale at retail. Expect to hear more in the next few weeks as Activision preps for E3.
