Gus Johnson Is Your New Madden Announcer

Most sports fans can probably come up with a few of their favorite Gus Johnson calls. The man is a mainstay on CBS as an NFL and NCAA basketball tournament announcer (and if we could have him as the secondary announcer for SEC football on CBS, my life would be complete), and he has become known as that guy who loses his sh*t during close games, which usually makes an exciting game even more exciting. My favorite Gus Johnson game is UCLA-Gonzaga from the 2006 NCAA tourney, when UCLA came back from a huge deficit and made Adam Morrison cry before the game even ended. Classic.

Even though I don’t really need a reason to post that clip, I do actually have one. Gus Johnson will be the new play-by-play announcer for the Madden franchise, starting with Madden NFL 11. This seems like a pretty awesome choice at first, but then I imagine getting annoyed by hearing the same thing screamed at me over and over. But we’ll see. If nothing else, it should be fun for a few days, and after that we could make a drinking game out of it.
