Haden Blackman Leaving LucasArts

This is one of those shocking resignations, really, because a name producer and writer doesn’t just quit his studio three months before the release of the AAA title he’s been working on (The Force Unleashed II) for nothing.

Here’s what he told IGN about his decision to resign: “While the decision to leave LucasArts did not happen overnight or come easily, I really feel that now is the best time for me to move on and explore new creative challenges and I look forward to the next phase of my career.”

Now, I’m just a kid from ‘Bama, but even I know that “the best time for me to move on” is not while you’re still working on your next big game. And it was just a week ago that Blackman said the folks at LucasArts were working really hard to satisfy Star Wars fans with TFUII. This situation could be the good ole “creative differences” rearing its head, or it could be some non-work-related personal issue for Blackman, but I can’t help but think it’s something more than just “time to move on.” Keep an eye out for updates on this story in the coming weeks.
