Half-Life 2 1Week Mod
1Week, a Half-Life 2 mod project started on Facepunch was released two weeks ago to critical acclaim in the HL2 modding community. The objective was to code a fully functional multiplayer mod in one week–and 1Week is more than just functional; it’s downright fun.
With fast-paced capture the flag team-based gameplay and elements of a class-based system, 1Week calls upon Starsiege: Tribes as its major source of inspiration, blending it with Team Fortress 2 and Halo.
One of 1Week’s main concepts is the inclusion of an “energy” bar along with the health bar, similar to Halo. The energy bar represents both power and armor, absorbing incoming damage, acting as jet pack fuel, and determining how much damage your weapons deal.
Since the mod’s official launch, the development team has released bug fixes, new maps, weapons, deployables, and animations. Though some may call this cheating, since their one-week timeframe is up, let’s not forget that most games released nowadays receive a number of patches before the developers–or the community members–are satisfied.
The mod is considered to currently be in open beta, and features planned for the next release are:
• New maps
• Redesigned buy-menu
• 2 New weapons
