Half-Life 2 Goes Left 4 Dead with ‘No More Room In Hell’ Mod, Releasing on Halloween (TRAILER)

The beta release of the upcoming zombie-infused Half-Life 2 mod “No More Room in Hell” is totally imminent, guys — fittingly, dropping on Halloween.

With that news comes a new release trailer (embedded below) that seems to feature Walter Sobchack of The Big Lebowski rather prominently (as a zombie at one point!). If you haven’t heard of the mod (like me), you might be excited to know that it’s a eight-player cooperative survival horror game. And that it has a ton of zombies. Yes.

Basically, it’s a variation on Left 4 Dead and looks like quite a good time. You can get more information (and, I imagine, download the mod in about a week) from the official No More Room in Hell site.

Hello, i test for the mod and i can honestly say hl2 is not going left 4 dead, please stop comparing every “zombie” mod to left 4 dead “infected”, it plays nothing like l4d, just a heads up.

I disagree with the comparison this game was given to L4D. I’ve tested the mod and It has very little in common with L4D. Where L4D feels more like an arcade co-op shooter in terms of difficulty, this game is clearly on a whole different level. Ammunition is precious, you can die at any time due to zombies seemingly coming out of nowhere, stray into the dark for too long and you are most likely to get mauled by a silent walker. You are also likely to become infected if you get bitten, unlikely most other ‘zombie games’.

Appreciated that No More Room In Hell isn’t EXACTLY like Left 4 Dead, guys, but the underlying premise — characters surviving against a horde of zombies while completing objectives and protecting one another — is very much similar. Granted, it appears this game is more George Romero than Danny Boyle and Zack Snyder, and I very much appreciate that. But at the very basic level, the comparison is sound and not even a bad one for the mod. Left 4 Dead is a great game and No More Room in Hell seems to offer a similar, but different, experience. That’s good news for people who like L4D, like me, as well as zombies and survival horror. We’re excited about NMRIH, we’re not knocking it.
