Half-Life 2 Head Tracking Mod (Video)

Kinect? Pah. Here’s a mod that uses a simple webcam as a motion interface. You can lean around corners in the virtual world by simply tilting your head.

The mod, FaceOff Paintball, allows you to use this head-tracking technique in levels from Half-Life 2 and Episodes 1 and 2, as well as in the mod’s built-in paintball mode.

The head-tracking is accomplished without any markers or configuration — the only requirement is that you own a webcam and a Source SDK title.

It’s a shame Valve didn’t render the right half of weapons, but if this technology kicks off, we may very well see it in all future FPS titles. Torticollis may become the new Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Also, we definitely need to see a Night at the Roxbury game with head-tracking.
