Half-Life 2 Mod Based On Lost
Just in time for the series finale, we stumbled upon an intriguing Half-Life 2 Mod based on ABC’s Lost. Cleverly titled “Lost: Multiplayer”, the mod aims to recreate, in part, the setting and tone of the venerable sci fi series in FPS form. There is, however, a 180 degree content swerve: initially conceived as a single player mock up of the show’s plot, it’s now intended to be a Lost-inspired, multiplayer, island-based survival game. Bad news for people who like waiting six seasons to find out that “it’s evil twins!”, great news for people who want endless firepower and the chance to off some of the show’s more annoying characters in high style.
The Mod’s developer insists the project is mostly about testing his programming skills and not about creating the next Counter-Strike, but even so, as described the game has a lot of promise. Forget what you know about Lost: There’s no mucking about with mysteries, no time travel and flashbacks, no “You All Everybody”. Instead it’s a multiplayer coop featuring teams of “tribes” that battle across the island for supplies and territory, while awaiting a rescue that likely isn’t ever coming. There’s plenty of goodies being touted for the final design, like single player or team coop play, the option to forgo tribal membership and survive by (ewww) cannibalism and sweet, wonderful destruction of team buildings and equipment. What stands out most is that players will be able to modify the tropical environment as they see fit. Frozen oceans? Plains? Pure unadulterated win.
Currently, the game already has the following special goodies:
Dynamic weapon spawn, dynamic fire lightning, fluid dynamic particles, colt, spas-12, axe, resource gathering system, hunger, thirst, tiredness systems, inventory, building, and some other things, custom explosions including random smoke particle with sound, realistic water splash particles, drinkable water, custom water textures, voting system, crossbow with incendiary bolts, crossbow with explosive bolts, crossbow with 3 types of bolts, temperature and more.
Lost: Multiplayer is currently in alpha testing. The beta test is scheduled for later this summer. Lost: the series will be taken offline on May 23rd.
