Half-Life 2 Mod “Insurgency” Standalone Sequel on Kickstarter

Five years ago, a total conversion for Half-Life 2 was released, titled “Insurgency.” The mod proved to be a hit, and today, the developers are seeking funding via Kickstarter to complete a standalone sequel.

Featuring an ultra realistic style of play based on real world locations in an ongoing war in Iraq, Insurgency’s gameplay is a mixture between Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and Day of Defeat. The standalone sequel will have smaller and more linear maps than the mod, due to the technical specifications of the engine the developers are using.

Development on Insurgency 2 is almost complete, and the developers believe the gameplay is solid. The funds being sought are to completely rework the game’s art direction in order to bring it in line with the same quality as the gameplay, as well as to release the game as soon as possible.

This project will only be funded if at least $180,000 is pledged by Saturday Sep 8, which is a lofty goal. But should the developers succeed, this would prove to be a tremendous victory for the modding community at large.
