Half-Life 2 Voted #1 PC Game of All Time

Half_Life_2_Seeing Half-Life 2 at the top of rankings has become so normal that it really isn’t even a surprise anymore. Still, Valve’s genre-defining first-person shooter, released in November of 2004, is starting to get a little long in the tooth.

Old or not, PC gamers still place it at the very top of the PC games list, and have been doing so since it was released. In a recent PC Gamer poll, Half-Life 2 garnered top honors, beating out the likes of Fallout 3, Deus Ex, World of Warcraft and others.

It’s not just PC Gamer: If you check out Metacritic’s PC ranking, you’ll find out that Half-Life 2 is still #1 there as well, with an overall rating of 96. I even replayed HL2 earlier this year, and it’s still a strong title, even at 5 1/2 years old.

If you haven’t played Half-Life 2, or if you just can’t remember which packing box you stored your game discs in and you need your fix, you can head over to Steam and grab the Half-Life 2 Complete Pack for $34.99.

Can you think of any other game (or series of games) that has captured the attention of so many gamers, and held up strongly for so long? If so, tell us below!

Uhhh… Wolfenstein? Doom? Quake? The ACTUAL genre-defining FPS games?

Ah, but those are too old for about 95% of gamers out there these days, so they get ignored…

What about the original Doom, that’s still popular with fans today. But yeah, half life is defiantly my favourite first person shooter game on the PC. I still can’t decide witch one I like better though, half life 1 or half life 2.

Wolfenstein and Doom are games I grew up with and I will always find time to play them once in a while. I never got into Quake though; I was an unreal and unreal tournament guy.

The original Doom was great, but it was a pure FPS. HL2 managed to tie in a bleak, surreal narrative that never ruined the gameplay, instead of just occasionally giving you bigger guns and bigger baddies to shoot while saying ‘find the exit’.

OK, so I played this game when it was first released, got stuck and gave up. Why? I really don’t know.

Last year I picked it back up and completed it. Then I went and bought the 2 episodes and haven’t looked back. In the last year I’ve played it through at least 3/4 times, and each of the episodes too. I love them… when the hell is episode 3 gonna be released??!! Come on Valve I NEED MY FIX!!!!
