Halo 3 Midnight Launches Canceled in the UK

halo4-1.jpgAll preparations for the launch of Halo 3 on September 26 in London have apparently been canceled. The Westminster council made the ruling, fearing that too many fans showing up could cause chaos in the streets. Microsoft doesn’t seem fazed by this though, as 1,000 retailers will be carrying the game the next day, and stores in the rest of the UK will still be opening at midnight. On top of that, on the 25th, a launch party is scheduled at the BFI IMAX, where celebrities and fans who win tickets will be able to play the game on the enormous screen. Still, this is probably the first time I can think of where a court ruled against a midnight launch for a video game.

Heh, new it was too good to be true.

Oh well, I’ll still be getting the game the day before release or on the day itself.

And I’ll be getting the game in the post with a 10% discount. Being a student does have some perks! Shame we get it a little bit later, but ahwell.

Westminster council are complete arseholes. I’m sure they do things like this just to make themselves feel important. I remember back in the 90′s they banned the David Cronenberg film ‘Crash’ even though it had been passed by the BBFC with an 18 certificate and was being shown in every other council district in London and the rest of the country.

A lot of local stores here in Quebec, Canada aren’t opening until 8 am, but there is one that will open at 23:30, so that we can get it by midnight. God bless those unselfish store managers willing to give of their time on a Monday night/Tuesday morning.

It’s a video game, who needs to be up at midnight to buy it? You’ll probably get mugged on the way home.

Muggings are an extremely rare occurrence here in Canada, and the midnight release is a fun thing to do with some friends. Like a midnight first day screening of the new James Bond movie as an example. It also makes my wife happier to know that I’m out at midnight on a Monday for a game, and not a strip club for an extra-marital activity…
