Halo 4′s Second Disc is an 8GB Multiplayer Install

Clear some hard drive space if you intend to play Halo 4 multiplayer on Xbox Live.

Microsoft has explained what that second disc will contain that’s shipping with the upcoming return to the adventures of Master Chief — multiplayer data. Apparently, you’ll need to install the data from the second disc before you can jump into some Chief-on-Chief (and Elite) action.

According to a statement made to Joystiq, Microsoft says the disc “contains data that will need to be installed on an Xbox 360 hard drive or compatible flash storage device with at least 8GB of available memory in order to access ‘Halo 4′s’ extensive suite of multiplayer features.” We’ve seen a similar system at work with some of Microsoft’s other games, like Forza Motorsport 4.

Once the install is done, you’ll be able to enjoy both the single-player campaign and the multiplayer while running Disc 1, Microsoft says.

The information came out as Microsoft continues to investigate (and consider legal action regarding) a leak of Halo 4 code over the weekend.

I don’t know about you people, but I can’t wait for the 20Gb GTA V install :P

(Seriously though: Microsoft should’ve gone with Blu-ray from the start)
