If you are a veteran Halo player, you know there are heaps to gripe about when it comes to morons who randomly end up on your team from time to time. It’s my favorite game series of all time thanks to a group of sociable Canadians I haphazardly met one day on Xbox Live who took me under their wing a couple years back and showed me all there is to know about completely owning the opposition, t-bagging and such. This article is simply my rant against team kill magnets. You know who you are.
I’d have to say my forte in Halo is my Warthog driving skills. I may not be the best out there, but I do have the uncanny ability of surviving some mad rides when I shouldn’t. My biggest complaint when it comes to driving are the morons who are usually randomly tossed on your team by arbitrary fate, who somehow never learn to get out of your way when you are driving across the map desperately trying to reach your base with the flag man riding shotgun. I don’t know how many times I have run over someone on our team because they are just randomly standing right where I need to drive and they aren’t paying any attention to what is happening in the game. Of course, after you run them over you get cursed for being a team killer. I would never intentionally team kill someone under normal circumstances, but if killing my own team member means winning the game, I will do it every time without hesitation.
When you play Halo, you can hear a Warthog coming from a ways off and it’s fairly effortless to figure out how close it is just by sound. Here’s a tip for you people out there who keep getting run over and wonder why; Jump when you hear the vehicle get close. I don’t care if it’s the opposition’s Warthog or one of your team members driving. If you jump just before it gets to you, you will not be run over. It sounds kind of effortless, but some people never learn. If you are ever on my team, keep in mind that I will run you over if it’s necessary for me to drive through the spot where you are standing. I’ll make an attempt to get on the mic and tell you to get out of the way, but more people need to get some common sense knocked into their heads before playing online.
I guess that’s it for my rant on team kill magnets. Another tip to avoid being team killed is when you see a cluster of grenades being hurled towards one spot, it might be a good idea to not run into that area and then blame your allies for your demise. War needs to be organized and not enough people realize that in online multiplayer games. You will win a preponderance of matches in nearly any game if you simply communicate with the guys around you. I hate to sound too serious, but it is crucial you learn to communicate with your team in multiplayer games. Communication skills are far more important than your individual gaming skills. Of course, you could just keep doing what you are doing now and wonder why your team members kill you. Attention to detail is a very important aspect of games like Halo.

Same can be said about many FPS’. Only yesterday did I see someone in Battlefield 2142 shoot the person in front so he could get to some heavy armour. Apparently he forgot there are 2 seats and, both used well, can be both devastating.
Halo is particularly a problem though as it’s quite high speed, but also relies on a bit of sense. Another general problem with Halo MP though is the fact that people just swear on it for the sake of swearing. Really disappointing.
(This going from Halo 1 PC)

I hate when people do that. I wouldn’t run over someone on my team even if they were right in front of me though. I’d probably stop for them and if they were not a fag, they’d get in the gunner seat with me.

I mostly play Rainbow Six vegas. Team kills happen if its enabled in the game options and if so its look out or get shot. sometimes its hard because of close quarter combat. I have had people walk in front of my shot and pay the price. But that is mostly an accident and most players are there to help, not team kill, if they are constantly team killing, they get booted.
But what i hate are the lame Spawn campers. all they do is sit in the spawn area and wait and shoot over and over, those are more lame than a accidental team kill. Also i hate Glitchers. Some areas have glich boxes or areas they can shoot and not be shot. I wish Ubisoft would fix that. They can make an awesome game so why cannot they fix the glitches. i know the are working on that i guess.

Most of us understand the Team Sacrifice mentality, and have been both victim and/or perpetrator at one time or another in a hotly contested game. It’s those random jerks that get in the way on purpose and then boot you immediately when given the option that really ruin it for the rest of our team.
