Harmonix Sold for $50

We knew that Harmonix got sold in December. We just didn’t know how much it was sold for. Now we do, and you may not believe it.

According to All Things Digital, investment group Columbus Nova paid just $49.99 for the entire company.

Obviously, there’s a reason this was so cheap, and that reason is around $150 million in tax benefits the deal will allow Viacom to claim. Columbus Nova also agreed to assume the Harmonix’s liabilities, including music rights and responsibility for unsold games and hardware.

There’s still no word on how (or if) Harmonix will be restructured, but it will be interesting to see how things shake out at the Rock Band developer.
