Has Nintendo Discontinued the DSi ?

With the Nintendo 3DS looming large on the horizon, it looks like Nintendo is going to cull the herd of DS SKUs.

According to Kotaku, a Japanese retail source has said that the DSi is now out of production. It appears that the only DSi units still available are those already in stores, and some areas are already sold out of the handheld.

If true, this leaves the DSi XL as the sole Nintendo handheld in production until t 3DS hits. It also means that you’ll likely see the DSi XL hang around longer in stores.

No word from Nintendo on this report yet, but we’ll contact them for a comment. Anything we hear, we’ll bring to you right here.
