Hearthfire DLC Announced for Skyrim

Bethesda has announced new DLC for Skyrim: Hearthfire, which allows players to purchase land and build their own home from the ground up, from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with armory, alchemy laboratory, and more. You can move your wife in, hire bards and stewards, and even settle down from the adventuring life and adopt children.

Hearthfire releases on Xbox LIVE next week (September 4th) for 400 Microsoft Points. Check out the trailer:

No word on when Hearthfire will be released on PC or PS3. Though, if you’re a PC player, modding options exist to approximately replicate the experience of this DLC.

I actually thought the official trailer for Hearthfire was a joke til I saw it was posted by Bethesda’s official YT channel.

UHH this is kind of cool but I’m not sure it’s the kind of expansion most people want…

Part of me says this is dumb, but part of me says it’s awesome.

I know you guys are hesitant, but I am fricken stoked about this… It completely took me by surprise, but this is exactly the kind of odd but very expansive and seemingly arbitrary creative outlet gaming DLC I’ve been looking for. I’ve always wanted a mainstream game that was a REAL game to do something random like this. Kudos to Bethesda for thinking outside the box instead of sticking to “cookie cutter” DLC. Not that they normally do that anyway. :)
