Hearthstone Tournament Champion Accused of Cheating
Radu “Rdu” Dima, the winner of the Dreamhack Summer Hearthstone Championship, has been accused of cheating.
Dima, who participated and won the tournament’s final round last night, aroused controversy when he was seen on a livestream receiving a message from a member of his friend list containing the contents of his opponent, Jason “Amaz” Chan’s, hand of cards. This led some to accuse Dima of cheating. That being the case, a review of the incident by tournament officials concluded that no wrongdoing had occurred and deemed a rematch unnecessary. Chan would also later release a video stating his belief that Dima was “definitely not cheating.”
All of this said, it’s not hard to see why some would be outraged by even just the hint that someone might have cheated in a competition of this caliber. Setting aside sportsmanship, the grand prize for the Dreamhack tournament was a whopping $10,000. This incident, in turn, has prompted many to renew calls for Blizzard institute options to temporarily shut off its Battle.Net messaging.
