Hellboy Director is Making Games
Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro is working on video games.
Del Toro told MTV News Wednesday he’s about to announce “a big deal with a big company” to make multiple games, although he couldn’t reveal any details because said company wanted him to remain tight-lipped.
At one point, del Toro was at the center of a rumor that had him working on a Bioshock movie adaptation. He also has talked about working on a game based on The Hobbit – he formerly was slated to direct the upcoming Peter Jackson-produced adaptation of the film. Jackson has since taken the helm.
Del Toro’s distinctive visual and narrative style would make for some cool games: I doubt many people can get the image of that Pan’s Labyrinth monster with the hand-eyes out of their nightmares. (I can’t.)
And he knows his way around gaming. In addition to being a Bioshock fan, del Toro has admitted to being partial to the indie game Flower and the PS2′s Shadow of the Colossus, a game many people point to whenever the discussion of video games as art comes up.
