Kinect demos are happening at Macy’s next week.

Obviously they’re not aimed at those of us who venture into the department store once a year to find a Mother’s Day gift.

Since Kinect supposedly works while sitting and can be used to control media, Microsoft probably figures it’s got us gaming couch potatoes covered. Now to get the motion sensing control device to catch fire with women, people looking for new food processors, and children being dragged through the mall by their parents.

Microsoft is hoping the gaming layperson will take to the Kinect the way many have to the Nintendo Wii’s control style and so long as they don’t mind playing only in groups of two. Hence the choice of a mall anchor store highly associated with clothing, rather than a big-box or electronic store.

And that’s 10 more locations than the three Microsoft stores where Kinect was previously playable. And you can enter to win a free Kinect once a day between Aug. 12 and Sept. 10 on macys.com. Have your mom enter on your behalf while she’s shopping for a new swimsuit.
